Maloca Auerworld

The Maloca Auerworld is an ambitious joint Brazilian-Thuringian initiative by the Auerstedt Association: an intercultural communal house, an Indian Maloca, is to be built twice in two continents of this earth: in the Brazilian province of Rondonia and in the Thuringian Village of Auerstedt. In both cases it embodies a place for learning and for teaching and is a symbol for friendship. The world is brought to the village and the village to the world.

Maloca Auerworld – the first turf is dug

On the 1st March 2004, the president of the Thuringian State Parliament Christine Lieberknecht dug the first turf. The result of extensive preparations, a remarkable building is to be constructed as a place for creative teaching and teaching. Claus Friese from the project partner Sinnan e.V. conveyed greetings from Chief Anine of the Surui Indians, the initiator behind the partner Maloca in Rondonia in a region of the Amazon rain forest under threat from deforestation. With the help of many generous donations from throughout Thuringia, the first Maloca began active use as a school and communal building for the Surui in Autumn 2001.

With the building of the Maloca Auerworld, a connection has been made between the two worlds in a contemporary and tangible form. A central principle is the relationship between global environmental protection and local sustainable, forward-looking regional development. The Maloca events are open to any and everyone who is interested, but are primarily oriented towards the needs of children and young people. Funded by the DBU, the German Foundation for the Environment, the Maloca Auerworld is also supported by the European Union and the EC LEADER community programme.

Organisers are the Förderverein Auerstedt e.V., the Auerstedt Association, already well-known for numerous successful initiatives in the last ten years including the renovation of Auerstedt Castle, the construction of the Auerworld palace made of living willow branches and the Expo 2000 project “Liquid Sound in the Tuscany of the East”. Further project partners include Sinnan e.V. as well as Ourchild e.V. Bad Sulza, the bbb Verein in Apolda as well as private funders and supporters. Ms Lieberknecht’s begin on the 1st March has extended the circle of supporters still further. Christine Lieberknecht has been patron of the Maloca Auerworld for 3 years.

Maloca Auerworld – 5 Guiding Principles
The programmes and events for and in the Maloca Auerworld aspire to the following guiding principles:

1. To learn from one another
To seek, learn and communicate about functioning transferable ecological and economical models which support a fair and happy coexistence. Prerequisite is an openness towards social and cultural variety on this earth and the readiness to give the best options a chance, independent of their origins.

2. To work with Nature
To seek, learn and communicate about models of living, working and playing in harmony with nature. Prerequisite is a respect for the principles of growth and transformation of nature, and an orientation towards nature’s flexibility and patience.

3. To promote creativity
To seek, learn and communicate about models in which man’s creativity can fulfil the promise of nature’s creativity and help it to new forms of expression. Prerequisite is an openness towards the artistic impulse and an aspiration towards the development of appropriate solutions in all areas of life.

4. To integrate technology
To seek, learn and communicate about models in which new technologies are actively employed to support the aforementioned principles. Prerequisite is an openness towards technologies which conserve resources and open up new communicative possibilities.

5. To expand horizons
To seek, learn and communicate about models which consider the present not only from the viewpoint of the past but also from the perspective of the future. Prerequisite for thinking within new parameters is an openness towards spiritual traditions in which the sense of one’s self embodies the key to a peaceful coexistence with one another and the living environment.
